Base Layer Workshop Series

Understanding is the first step. Using is the second. The Base Layer series takes you through three workshops — from your first transaction to confident everyday use, in small groups of at most 15 people, so there is room for your questions.

The parts build on each other, but you can also join a single part if you bring the required knowledge. You can pick that up at Bitcoin Entdecken — or on your own with our guide for individuals.

Part 1: Transactions, wallets, and security #

As long as someone else holds your Bitcoin, you are not independent. Part 1 covers the foundations of self-custody: how transactions work on the Bitcoin blockchain, which wallet suits you — from hot wallet to cold storage — and how to keep your private keys safe.

Part 2: Privacy, buying, and first Lightning steps #

Buying Bitcoin usually leaves traces. Part 2 covers the difference between KYC and non-KYC purchases, why pseudonymous is not anonymous, and how to protect your privacy. Together we set up a Lightning wallet and send the first payments.

Part 3: Lightning, spending, and taxes #

Bitcoin in everyday life: the Lightning Network in theory and practice, spending with the “spend and replace” approach, and an overview of the tax framework in Austria.*

Participation #

Seats are limited to 15 people — register for a specific date and bring your smartphone or laptop.

Participation costs a small contribution. It covers speaker compensation, venue rent, and drinks — payable in Bitcoin or euros. You will see the amount when you register.
