Bitcoin Austria is a non-profit association based in Vienna. Since 2011, we have worked to keep Bitcoin open to everyone. We share knowledge, support free software, and contribute to public debate.
We have no commercial interests. Membership fees and donations fund our work and help us maintain an independent voice.

Bitcoin is an open protocol. Anyone can use it, verify it, and build on it. Free software, self-custody, and public infrastructure enable its use without a compulsory intermediary.

A meetup in Vienna in 2011. That was the beginning of Bitcoin Austria. Today, we bring people together, share knowledge, and support free software.
The idea has stayed the same: understand Bitcoin, use it, and contribute to its development.

Plenty of people want to sell you Bitcoin. We want you to understand it. We don't give investment advice.
Financial autonomy
Bitcoin can be held and used without a bank or mandatory payment processor. We want to keep it that way.
