Short version
We do not use advertising trackers or sell data. Delivering the website, maps, newsletters and videos you choose to load still involves processing data. The services and purposes are explained below.
Hosting
This website is served via Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you visit the site, connection data (e.g. IP address, access time, browser type) is transmitted to Cloudflare for technical reasons. This is required to deliver the website. Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the secure and efficient provision of the website). Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Web analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which loads a JavaScript beacon in your browser. According to Cloudflare’s documentation, it does not use cookies or other browser storage to identify returning visitors. It sends measurements of page views and loading performance. We use the analysis to improve the site under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Cookies
Our editorial website does not set advertising or tracking cookies. Hosting security features and external content you load may use technical storage mechanisms; see the relevant sections.
Contact by email
When you contact us by email, we process your message and the data it contains (name, email address, content) to handle your inquiry. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or Art. 6(1)(b) for contract-related inquiries.
Our email service runs on Google Workspace (Google Ireland Ltd., Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Google is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Emails are processed and stored on Google servers. More information: policies.google.com/privacy
Newsletter
We operate our own newsletter system. The form sends your email address, selected list and an ALTCHA verification proof to newsletter.bitcoin-austria.at. ALTCHA helps prevent automated signups. The connection also involves technical connection data. The mail servers involved in delivery process your recipient address. Signup is voluntary, based on Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in the newsletter or by emailing [email protected].
YouTube videos
Some pages embed YouTube videos (Google Ireland Ltd., Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Videos load only when you click “Load video”. No connection to Google is made before that, and no data is transmitted. We also use YouTube’s enhanced privacy mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which YouTube states does not set personalization cookies. Once you load a video, technical data such as your IP address and browser info is transmitted to YouTube/Google. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent). Reloading stops the video embed on this page. It does not undo previous transfers or delete data already held by Google. Google is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Donations
Bitcoin donations are handled through our payment server, pay.bitcoin-austria.at. It processes payment data such as amount, time and payment identifier, including addresses and transaction IDs for on-chain payments. Such records may be attributable to people. On-chain transactions are public and cannot be deleted from the blockchain by us. Processing and assigning a donation is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, legally required records on Art. 6(1)(c), and secure operation on Art. 6(1)(f).
Maps and external connections
Our interactive maps load map tiles from CARTO (CartoDB Inc., USA), based on OpenStreetMap data. Loading a tile sends the provider information including your IP address, browser details and the requested tile. CARTO describes processing and international transfers in its Basemap Terms and Privacy Notice. We use the maps to show meeting places and businesses accepting bitcoin, based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Opening an individual location may load current details directly from BTCMap at api.btcmap.org, transmitting connection data to that service. The purpose is to display current location information, based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. External linked websites are operated under their respective providers’ responsibility.
Your rights
You have the right of access, the right to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object. For any concerns, write to [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (dsb.gv.at).
Changes
We update this privacy policy when changes occur. The current version applies from the date of publication on this website.
